FOUR COMMITMENTS
COMMITMENT ONE
We source directly. *No middlemen.*
In the Indian tea industry, most premium tea passes through 4–6 intermediaries between the garden and the consumer — agents, brokers, auction houses, wholesalers, regional distributors, retailers. Each one takes a margin and adds a delay.
Namhah works on a different model. We pick up directly from sixteen partner gardens across Assam, Darjeeling, and Arunachal Pradesh. We taste every batch before we buy it. And we pay growers above the auction price because we believe the people who grow our tea should earn more than the people who shuffle paperwork.
0 middlemen · 16 partner gardens · 100% traceable
COMMITMENT TWO
Hand-picked. *Never machine-cut.*
Most of the tea sold in India today is machine-harvested. Machines are fast and cheap, but they cut entire branches — leaves, stems, and old wood together. The result is a coarser tea with less flavour and a duller cup.
Every leaf we sell is picked by hand. Our pluckers have 15+ years of garden experience and follow the traditional “two leaves and a bud” standard. It costs more. It takes longer. It is the reason our tea tastes the way it does.
Two leaves and a bud · 15+ year plucker experience · Traditional craft
COMMITMENT THREE
Fair pay to growers. *Always.*
The tea industry has a difficult relationship with the people who actually grow the leaves. Wages in many gardens have not kept pace with the value of the tea they produce.
Namhah is not a charity. We are a business. But we have made a decision: we pay above the prevailing rate for every batch we source, and we work only with gardens that pay their pluckers fairly and provide healthcare and education for their workers’ families.
If a garden can’t show us this, we don’t source from them. Full stop.
Above-market rates · Verified ethical sourcing · Worker welfare audits
COMMITMENT FOUR
Shipped from Guwahati. *Within 24 hours.*
Tea is a living thing. The longer it sits in a warehouse, the more it loses — first its aroma, then its colour, finally its taste. Most “premium” tea sold in India has been sitting in a warehouse for 6–12 months before it reaches you.
We pack to order. Your tea leaves our Christian Basti warehouse the same day or the next, by Bluedart or Delhivery, anywhere in India. Free shipping on orders above ₹500. Most orders reach in 3–5 days.
Same-day dispatch · 3–5 day delivery · Free shipping above ₹500
“Every cup we sell, we have tasted ourselves. Every garden we source from, we have walked through. Every order that leaves our warehouse, we are proud of.”
